Riding the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route (GDMBR)
From Banff Canada to the border of Mexico along the Continental Divide
2,714 miles (4,368 km) with 168,382 ft of climbing (51,323 m)
Starting on August 14, 2024, my buddy Chad Howe-Watson and I set off on the ultimate gravel bike adventure—the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route. It's a journey from Banff, Canada all the way to El Paso, TX at the Texas-Mexico border. The GDMBR is considered by many to be the birthplace of bikepacking as a sport. It was definitely a bucket-list bike trip!
Although we took advantage of the occasional road side diner, we were committed to eating whole foods and cooking our own meals as often as possible. We definitely had fun riffing with our camp cooking gear, and tried to record as much of this adventure as possible.
Here is a video series of our trip. There are 4 videos covering The Route, The Beauty, The Plates, and The Peeps.
